Company Profile/History SHIP Company - SHIPCO Circuits

Known to most customers as "SHIP" or "SHIPCO", Ship Company was established 1975 in Macroom Co, Cork Ireland.
When Ship closed down its manufacturing in July 2007 it was the longest surviving PCB Company in Ireland, operating for 32 years.
At the height of Irish PCB manufacturing, probably in the late 1980's, Ireland counted up to 7 PCB manufacturers, some employing more than 100 staff.  With Ship's closure in 2007 the last full range (pth and multilayer) PCB supplier end manufacturing here.
Tragic we think, but SHIP is moving on. When one door closes another one opens the old saying goes.
Trading of PCB's started in the early 1990's. This part of the business did not suffer from continuous PCB price erosion like manufacturing.
When we couldn't beat the FE we found that we already had joined them, selling initially low tech products for our FE competition, today sometimes more sophisticated products than
can be made in Europe.
The last few years of PCB trading subsidised our manufacturing at increasing rates, an escalation that eventually forced the closure of manufacturing.
Now (autumn 2007) Ship is slowly moving out of the doldrums, sadly after redundancy of nearly all crew.
Today we operate under the new name SHIPCO Circuits; Circuits added for clarity as SHIPCO is what most customers knew us by.

What does SHIPCO provide?

A serious part of our PCB know how is retained in Niall Kelleher who collected his experience as production manager over 20 years before he headed up sales.
This knowledge combined with often less practical PCB know how from Sten Bjorsell helps us provide working solutions to most PCB problems.
Irish and other European customers have experienced this and benefit from it every day, and we dare to say; many of our Chinese suppliers are now finding this out as well...
The focus on trading has expanded our supply base both in the number of companies we deal with and the volume of trade we do while the level of understanding and trust is also continuously growing.
Sometimes it is as it was when we had our own production downstairs. We instruct how to make it, email pictures instead of drawing on paper, we propose (instead of order..) tests to be made, just as before although our "manufacturing facilities” are 10,000,000 instead of 30 meters away. The new production capacity is totally flexible and operates as if we had 5,000 employees instead of the 5 we actually have.
In short, if we cannot provide it, you will be very lucky to find it anywhere else.
